Feature
Google Merchant XML feeds as an import source
Reuse a Google Shopping or Merchant Center product feed to import products into Shopify. The g: namespace, sale prices and GTIN or MPN identifiers are understood out of the box.
- RSS 2.0 with the g: namespace
- Atom product feeds
- Sale price and sale price effective dates
- GTIN, MPN and item group id for variants
Why merchants use Google feeds as a source
Many suppliers, marketplaces and other stores already publish a Google Merchant Center feed for Shopping ads. It is a well-defined XML dialect with stable field names, which makes it one of the most reliable sources to import from. If your supplier offers a "Google feed" alongside their own XML, either one works.
Fields the app reads
| Google field | Used for |
|---|---|
| g:id | SKU |
| g:title, g:description | Title, description |
| g:image_link, g:additional_image_link | Images |
| g:price, g:sale_price | Compare-at price and price |
| g:availability, g:quantity | Inventory |
| g:brand | Vendor |
| g:gtin, g:mpn | Barcode |
| g:item_group_id | Grouping variants into one product |
| g:size, g:color | Variant option |
| g:product_type, g:google_product_category | Product type and tags |
Sale prices
When a sale price is present and lower than the regular price, the app uses the sale price as the selling price and the regular price as the compare-at price, so the storefront shows the discount the supplier intends.
Frequently asked questions
My supplier only gives me a Google Shopping feed. Can I use it?
Yes. Google Merchant feeds are XML (RSS 2.0 or Atom) with product fields in the g: namespace. The app recognises them and maps id, title, description, link, image links, price, sale price, availability, brand, GTIN, MPN and item group id.
How are variants handled in a Google feed?
Items that share the same item_group_id are combined into one Shopify product, with each item as a variant carrying its own size or colour, price and availability.
Is availability turned into stock?
Availability values in stock and out of stock become quantities you configure, typically a default stock for in stock items and zero for out of stock. Feeds that include a quantity field use the real number.
