Product XML Import

Feature

Bulk product import from XML

Import thousands of products from a supplier XML feed into Shopify in one run, with titles, descriptions, images, prices, stock, brands and categories mapped automatically.

Install on Shopify

  • Streams feeds of hundreds of megabytes
  • Runs in the background in batches of 250
  • Re-runs update, never duplicate
  • Progress bar for every stage

How does a bulk XML import into Shopify work?

Paste the feed URL in the app, and the importer downloads the XML with a streaming reader, so memory use stays flat whether the feed has 500 or 50,000 products. Products are parsed, stored and then created in Shopify in batches of 250 through the GraphQL Admin API. The app shows the parsing, saving and Shopify stages with a live count, and you can leave the page while it runs.

What gets imported?

Feed data Shopify field
Product title and description Title, body HTML
Brand Vendor
Category Product type and tags
SKU and barcode Variant SKU, barcode
Price and old price Price, compare-at price
Quantity Inventory at your location
Image URLs Product and variant media
Size or colour Variant option
Weight Inventory item weight

Products without a SKU are skipped so that later syncs can identify them reliably.

Draft or active?

You choose per feed whether imported products are created as drafts for review or published immediately. Many merchants import as drafts the first time, spot-check a few products, and switch to active for later runs.

Large feeds and safety

The importer keeps a log of each run with the number of parsed, created, updated and missing products. If the feed comes back empty or with far fewer products than last time, the run stops and nothing in your store changes.

Frequently asked questions

How many products can I import at once?

There is no technical cap in the importer. Plans are sized by catalogue: Starter up to 1,000 products, Basic 2,500, Professional 5,000 and Enterprise or multi-feed plans without a limit. Feeds with tens of thousands of products import fine; Shopify's API speed decides how long the run takes.

Which product fields are filled?

Title, description, vendor, product type from the feed category, tags, SKU, barcode, price, compare-at price, quantity, weight, images and one option axis such as size or colour. Metafields can be mapped on request.

Will re-importing create duplicates?

No. Products are matched by SKU on every run and updated in place with Shopify's productSet mutation, so a second run refreshes the same products.
